Re: EFSUNIT.BIN
If you get the efsunit.bin file from Nova or the original game it's the the 85th icon. Each icon is 32 pixels wide by 32 pixels tall; each pixel represented by a byte. There are 92 icons in the efsunit.bin file, each 1024 bytes (32*32). So if you want the militia icon copy the 85th 1024 bytes out of...

Re: Phoenix discussion
I looked into it a while back, but I don't think they're standard windows 98 fnt files at all. If they were I should have been able to open them with teh Fontedit tool (http://www.vsoft.nl/software/utils/win/fontedit/). I looked into the first few bytes of one of the files and it seems clear that it...

Re: Phoenix discussion
GLIMMER.bin is a hexagon tile, just like the EFSTILE#.bin files except it's just a single tile (48x40). I haven't figured out S_BORD or V_BORD either, so I'm working around whatever they are. I also didn't figure out BORDER or SHIELD. If you have any tips you could share for those, I'm definitely in...

Sharing Inspiration from Remake Journey
I thought I'd share a few of the inspiration I've come across while working on a remake/clone. I've been reading way more than I've been coding, and so I'm really just getting to rendering the game world now. I've been reading about a lot of game development experiences and I've filled many pages in...

Re: Phoenix discussion
I'm having fun making a clone and learning things about the game I never knew or appreciated before. Eventually I want to redesign the interface a bit, but I've got a long way to go right now. I'm not sure why your making another interface, but I hope it's fun for you and you're learning a lot. Enjo...

Re: Phoenix discussion
I found Phoenix to be inspirational as well and have been slowly coding a clone and keeping a log of what I've learned so far. Although it would be great to have the developers insight into every file and variable, the answer may not be out there. It might be, but you can't necessarily count on it. ...
