Re: clone

Yes, it depends on that. I think that if an effort is made to start from scratch, it should not be limited by the past. Therefore, my goal is the best space strategy game set in the Fading Suns universe possible, not to recreate EFS. There are other people who can make a clone if they like. And I wo...

Re: clone

Hi, and thanks ;) . To be honest Planettest was just a ... test. I have a lot of ideas how it could and should be improved. But lets just say that I have some fundamental issues with how software is currently developed. I'm trying to solve those so that I can build the software I want, including the...

Re: Use Wesnoth as Engine?

The problem with no stack limits, as has been noted before, is that 100 cannon fodders will beat 20 elite armored units. It won't work.
Well, that depends mostly on what the combat system is like. I've never fancied the combat system of Civs/EFS, so that would be good to change anyway.

Re: EFS 2 - Online

Yes, I am making a game. But I'm not exactly making a clone, the goal is more along the line of "the best space strategy ever", which is why it's taking time. Some of my work you can see in these threads: </font> ⋅ <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-seri...

Re: EFS 2 - Online

Considered, yes, seriously, no. Massively multiplayer games are very difficult to do, require vast amounts of money on maintenance alone etc. What kind of game would it be anyway? If you mean simple browser games then maybe, but I don't think they are interesting enough from a technical standpoint (...

Umm, no, the suns are actually fading. For example, Delphi and many more.

Better yet, I can point you to a post that quotes the relevant portion. :D (yes, I have the book)

Re: Legions

Grim, do you propose more detailed planets for aesthetical reasons only or is there something besides that? I ask because the planet can be made to look good regardless of the "resolution" of the hexes. See for example the game Korsun Pocket where the background is hand-drawn and the game ...

Re: Legions

You are suggesting we play on more detailed worlds than Civilization? Imagine a hundred Civ games at the same time! Playing a whole house simply becomes an impossible amount of work. Sometimes less is more and I think it applies here. Less areas, more abstraction in location but not necessarily less...

Re: Legions

Now my idea involves doing away with the current hex lay out or at least refining it. Planets are too small the way they are now. To easy to defend...don't require hardly any investment to map. No search teams needed for mapping. Maybe the hexes should be much smaller. Interesting. I don't see how ...

I think everyone here has read FS: War in the Heavens - Hegemony
I own the physical book but I don't want to spoil myself yet ... I like to keep some mystery ;) . I'm saving it for a rainy day at the summer house.

You can also try the Fading Suns Games mailing list (Yahoo).

Re: Use Wesnoth as Engine?

Well there are other free C++ compilers around. If you are interested in porting to Linux, Mac or others, I would recommend GCC (for Windows use the Cygwin or MinGW ports). If you aren't specifically interested in that programming language but want to get something quickly done, I would point you to...
