Hi, came across you guys asking for help
I have a new computer I transfered the complete game to...
I reinstalled on top of it, but all it says is "Game not installed, please run setup"
k, all I see that is different is the fact I have Windows XP on my new comp.
I tried setting the file compatibility to 95 (not really know what it does) but nothing
I even entered a reg 'CD-ROM' value='D:'
still nothing
Reinstall died

Re: Reinstall died
I happened upon a similar problem when I tried to install EFS on a NT station - I have the "Underdogs" version, not the CD : it was fixed after I updated the registry with the "EMPORER.REG" file that is in the EFS folder .
However the game crashed when it tries to load/create a game, I supposed it's not NT compatible , but it should be with XP
If this helps ...

Re: Reinstall died
Compatibility mode means windows will emulate the environment provided by a windows 98 machine.
It sometimes makes things that were written specifically for one OS work
EFS uses directX (5 I think), and should work everywhere that or a higher version is supported (which doesn't include NT 4, which only goes up to DirectX 3).
LockeScope: You are probably missing some registry entries, not sure which ones though (they'd go in the same spot as where you put the CD line).

Re: Reinstall died
This is the content of the reg file I have :
(start)
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HDI\Emperor of the Fading Suns\1.0]
"CDROM"="G:\\"
"Directory"="f:\\SUNS"
"DirectXInstalled"=dword:00000000
(end)
Puzzled about what the last line means.I suppose the only important entry is the first, the other seems to have no effect whatever the values (My CD ROM isn't G: and I've no F: either :p )

Re: Reinstall died
too lazy to create a FAQ, so sticked the topics related to the problem mentioned again (was de-toping them yesterday ...).
Re: Reinstall died
PDF, I don't have any problem with EFS on a NT station...
I have some cursor disappearing problem after a alt+tab but that's the risk at the office
( Actually the cursor problem is solved if you quickly go to the B2 screen and then swap tasks... )

Re: Reinstall died
yeah it was just the reg
I actually solved it the same day I asked, but I kinda lost where this forum was.
[I feel stupid entering the key as 'CD-ROM' instead of 'CDROM']
I still wonder how I can play the intros though. Everything before the menu is blank. I miss the holistic monkey
