I uploaded an avatar to a friends site and told it to read in this forum. Unfortunaltely, even though it showed up in my profile when I did it, It will not show up now. any ideas?

I had the same problem with the mine before. The problem may be in the site security preferences.

The first thing I'd recommend is to try other web source. Try some real free webspace sites; for free they won't offer you much space, but it would be anough for several dozens of small avatars. Always check file extension permissions on these sites, many of them forbid to upload most of graphical formats (BTW also check if that's not your actual problem). ;)

If it fails completely, well... I could upload you image to my server.

Let me get your email and I will send you the pic. Geocities must have something screwed for security on it.

I can see the pic if i open the site it is on in a different window. is there any way around this?

'Geocities' and 'screwed' fit together perfectly :)

What's probably happening is Geocities (along with more or less every other major free hosting place) blocks incomming requests for images (and sometimes other files) unless the referrer is from within geocities (or, possibly, blank).

Angelfire is renowned for this, since they return a 'hosted by' image instead :)

BTW as you can see (my avatar is away) I have some problems on my server (again!). But it's not for long. So you can pass me the image and I'll put it to my server pronto.

Just check the properties of the link and put it up. Let me know the addy so I can link it when your server is up.

BTW, with Geocities, if I make a page or series of pages there, will it still be available from within geocities? For Downloads and stuff. I am going to steal Bannor's site and link it to my own. Or maybe just do what I did with MSN and make lotsv of accounts
