New EFS utility

Re: New EFS utility
First note:
I maid check box "Selected" placed on "Units statistics" window,
where you can filter out units for selected technologies only.
Just select possessed technologies and open the window then click the check box “Selected”. And the table will show available units.
I wanted to make open\save features, just give me some time. Unfortunately I’am overloaded at work now.
About the second note: yes-yes!
Now I'am afraid I have no time to make patch immediately. I merely gave you instructions for current version.

No pressure!
Re: New EFS utility
I am feeling myself like an artist exhibiting his piece of art for public in a gallery.
Thank you for your remarks and offers.
I’ll try to implement all of them in the next version.
TO Grimly Fiendish 2:
I received your *.dat files and going to examine the glitch.
But I need a tech chart to support your mod fully.
Could you make an attempt to draw it?

I'd love to! But I am not sure when I will have time ...
But I do have Visio. it might not be that hard ...

Hi!
Are you still here?
At last I've maid all changes you wanted.
To Grimly Fiendish 2:
Now the utility copes with your files, but you can
examine the units list for discrepancies only
(for instance 500 "Guild Merchant" needs "999" tech?... )
tech chart is still needed
for construction chains derived from/to a certain technology.
Let's download and try the new version from the links

Hey Vlad. I'm still here, but won't be working on a Visio tech chart any time soon. Will try the new tool though . . . .
Re: New EFS utility
No problem!
I still hope the tool is the real help in playing EFS.
At least with Hyperion.

Hey Vlad
I've gotten your tech tree tool to work for Hyperion and it looks great. I appreciate the work you've done and applaud your willingness to make improvements.
I have a suggestion. Your program is great for analyzing an existing tech tree that is complex. But what about a simpler tool to work on developing a tech tree that is incomplete?
The difficulty with tree development is that there is no way to merge data from a tech.dat and a unit.dat. That is, you can look at a tech tree and determine the inputs to each tech, and you can make a tech chart that shows both inputs and outputs for each tech node. But a tech that has 3 outputs to other techs (for example, a Bio tech branches to 2 bio techs and an Applied tech) might be used as an input for 20 units in the unit file. So the tech chart doesn't show how important a tech really is. And you don't want to make a perfect tech chart when you aren't done with your tech.dat yet.
In your program, you show these downstream techs and units in a list. Would it be easy to take out the visual part and just have a program that (1) opens a tech.dat and shows, in different windows or columns, (a) inputs (b) outputs (c) number of inputs (d) number of outputs (e) class of node (root, pure, bio/physics/social, applied) (f) units that use the tech and (2) opens a unit.dat and shows tech inputs.
Other things that could be shown are, some way of calculating a node value/research cost, like/hate, Manowitz chapter and text, upgrades to units, etc etc.
Would this be easy to do?

Re: New EFS utility
Hi guys!
I am here at last! Sorry for silence!
I was out of town due to my work for a several weeks.
Now I returned and get ready for developing the utility.
Thank you, Grimly, for such a big post, full of fresh ideas.
Frankly speaking, I didn't grasp the idea complitely at first sight.
Certainly I'll think it over and try to implement in future revision.

That's great!
To clarify, I meant that just windows and lists that read from all dat files are enough. Visuals help, but are a lot of work!

Happy New Year, my dear friends!!!
A New Years day that's perfect,
All you've dreamed, and more,
A whole year, that will bring you,
The wishes, you're wishing for.
A home, blessed with contentment,
Good fortune, all year through,
And happiness in endless ways,
'Tis my New Years wish, for you.

Vlad:
I really want to apologize to you for not putting your utility up on my website.
I've been so out of EFS this past year, but I'm going to try to find some time to get back into EFS this year.
Let me see if I can find my ftp password so I can put your stuff up on my site.
Matt
