hi everybody,
i started a pbem game on another forum, and now i am wondering will changing epochs later in the game cause compatibility problems with pbem games, due to changing of .dat files during a game
any insights?

you will get CRC errors, so at least you should declare the time wehn you are changing the DAT file to all other players that this is the reason for the CRC error. Also all should change it in the same time!

apart from the error message, if we change epochs simultaneously, there will be no bad effects. we can continue play normaly?

Right - you'll just get the CRC errors for a turn or two and then that will be it.
There are no compatibility issues.
I haven't started a new Gamma PBEM, yet because things are still a little too fluid and players don't like changes after they start.

another thing occured to me: since we have no computer players, can we just start with epoch 3?
are there any units that cannot be built in epoch 3, but can be built in epoch 1? i failed to find any in the unit.dat files
