Engine Design Document

Postby Deathifier » Mon Sep 02, 2002 5:48 pm

One of the two parts to the development of the Clone is the actual engine to power it.
The other part is the feature set, user-interaction and so on side of it (i.e. how it plays).

This particular post contains the ongoing development of the engine, and thus will only be interesting to those who want to know the details of what drives a game.

To kick it off I've spent the better part of 2hrs at the wrong time of night (uh, morning now) polishing the text-based version of my initial design.

Said design can be found at:
http://www.twarriors.com/deathifier/enginedesign.txt

It is not entirely complete, in particular a lot of detail is missing on both general behaviour of the system as a whole and specific detail on how the objects interact.

Also keep in mind that it is designed independant of the Operating System or specific technologies used to power it (and that is unlikely to change).

I will produce a graphical diagram showing just object interactions, and further along flesh it out into a full UML diagram.

Comments, criticisms and questions are welcome :)
