Argh! Had to reinstall XP! -- Need registry info

Postby beetlecat » Sat Jan 22, 2005 4:19 am

Good day folks,

As it says above, I had to reinstall XP (actually, i reformatted my C: drive!) and lost all of my registry info for my installed apps/games.

It'll take quite a while to get everything running again, especially modded things like EFS.

Could somebody extract their registry info for their HDI key and post it here? This would also aid people who have trouble getting it to run in 2000/nt/xp.

Thanks!

Ahh, I should have mentioned that I did do that step already. There must be some other info EFS puts in the registry that it check for 'being installed' - not just the directx failure issue.

I can't remember if i put Hyperion or Nova in last time... Maybe it's time to start from scratch! :)

----------------------------------------------------
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HDI\Emperor of the Fading Suns\1.0]
"CDROM"="G:\\"
"Directory"="c:\\S"
"DirectXInstalled"=dword:00000000
----------------------------------------------------

No path changes needed, just apply it.
With this should work with/without CD ;)

true, deleted 10 posts aprox in last 2 weeks. Any ideas what should we do to avoid them?

looks like i should give the answer:
1st: this board has a graphical image while registering, so only intelligent bots are able to autoregister.
2nd: the domains with the most spam mail accounts are banned for registration
3rd: checking different patches for higher spam-durability, like checking domains, words ... still nothing installed.
4th: manually deleteing accounts not being used for EFS or FS, plus posts
5th: valid email-address is required for registration

thats all for now, i have seen in a lot of places now spam, so also a patch for showing the memberlist only to registered users is available (to hide the links ...)

all for now

and yes, less spam now in comparasin with the previous UBB ...

[edit: added email validation]

some ideas:

to protect against bots:
- if bots decide on board version, don't give this version out in generated pages (or fake some)
- use custom registration procedure that requires to read text semantically and give an answer - like type here result of 1+1 (downside is, of course, it has to be implemented) - I don't think such an intelligent bot exists - sophisticated certainly, but not intelligent enough to really understand written text
- check for valid e-mail (maybe done - I don't see it in your list), won't help sophisticated bots

spam control:
- only registered members can see links
- if entered post contains links or images, post will be rejected - unless member has right to do it (by moderator)
- every member starts as 'moderated' -> his post will be put to queue for admin to approve
- admin can unmoderate member (a decision mostly done by moderators on first post - delete or unmoderate :-) )

Hi, switched registration to semiautomatic, so i need to activate all accounts now. With that i can delete before any post is made, anyone w/o a link or a better username, better mail domain will become active at least until his/her st post.

And yes, it can take more than one day to activate a account!

Hi all,

no new posts here, a lot of deleted registrations. If by chance anybody feels that his/her registration was deleted and should been activated, drop me a mail.
